"When you open your mind and hands and heart to the knowing of a thing, there is no room in you for fear"

I am going to start filtering some of my more private musings. Since blogger does not have a tool for that, you will need to visit my Live Journal and ask to be friended there. I will continue to post Daily Gratitude and other subjects here.
There is also a FAQ for my Journal at the same link.
Southwest Leather Conference
Sunday, December 07, 2003
@ 18:07
Wow.
And again: Wow.
I haven't been to a lot of leather events, but this was the most meaningful. It was boy's first conference (he's been to contests and to local workshops and forums) and that it took place within our local community was wonderful. We were surrounded by friends and supportive community members who will most likely become friends. We were able to watch three highly qualified couples compete for the title of Southwest Master/slave 2004. We were able to meet some amazing women from CA and Nevada (and some men too!) and reconnect with some that we'd met previously. We were privileged to witness speeches, workshops, and one "event" (there's really no other word for it) that resonated deeply in us individually and as a couple and will give us tools, language and new perspectives on strengthening our ownership dynamic as well as opportunities to forge bonds with other community members.
From slave marsha's keynote address on Friday night (a companion piece to Master Jim's keynote address at this year's Masters Retreat which can be read on their website Edgeliving) through workshops on polyamory, kavadi, obedience and presentations and speeches on master-slave relationships from three very diverse couples and the countless conversations, exchanges, and hugs that round out such events, we felt at home, open, loved, and astounded. Ending our weekend with a "workshop" by Midori and her boi on primal play that spoke to a core element of our interactions has left us both altered. While we may look different, have different backgrounds, experiences, preferences, we are still all the same. boy was so emotionally and spiritually jarred that we weren't in a state to stay for the final "workshop" The Dance Of Souls which was a group energy dance involving drumming, flesh dancers, and witnesses. (It's actually happening as I write this and I'm sure it was a marvelous culmination of an incredible weekend of community bonding and spirit.)
There is much I need to process in myself from this weekend. Some of it may appear on this journal or my website (I am hoping to get permission from one of the contestants to print her speech on mastery on D M's Realm) and boy will, no doubt, put his thoughts on his two journals. There will be changes in our relationship sparked from ideas presented by Master Jim & slave marsha and things observed in the relationships we witnessed all weekend. There will be a shift in our approach to walking in the community we are blessed to have found and a rededication of our commitment to serve that community. And there will be an openness to expanding our circle and bonding with individuals and families that we had the good fortune to encounter and connect with this weekend.
We are embraced and connected and loved. And, "we" is not our M/s community, our women's community, our leather community, or even our bdsm community. "We" is, to paraphrase one of the Master contestants, our "community of humanity".
