"When you open your mind and hands and heart to the knowing of a thing, there is no room in you for fear"

I am going to start filtering some of my more private musings. Since blogger does not have a tool for that, you will need to visit my Live Journal and ask to be friended there. I will continue to post Daily Gratitude and other subjects here.
There is also a FAQ for my Journal at the same link.

Thursday my doctor gave me the okay to start taking baby steps: walk in the aircast without crutches, then walk without the cast but with the crutches at home only, slowly increase the amount of time walking without the aircast at home, walk with only one crutch at home, drop the crutches completely at home, start walking for little bits outside the house. All the while I'm supposed to be doing exercises to regain range of motion and strengthen my muscles. I saw the PT yesterday to learn the exercises. She said do the mobility ones first, then in 2-4 weeks, start on the strengthening. I don't have to see either the doctor or the PT again unless I have problems. The rest of my recovery/rehabilitation is up to me and I should be crutch & cast free in 3-4 weeks. (on a side note: the doctor said twice that "you're young" so he wasn't worried about my ability to rehab mysElf. When did doctors start referring to 37 as "young" for healing? When I was a kid, doctors considered anyone over 30 as middle-aged and, therefore, less physically resilent.)
As we got home from the PT, boy received a phone call from the chef at the country club. He went in for an interview about two hours later and clicked well with the chef. All he needs now is the approval of the sous chef. She is supposed to call boy today to set up a time Sun or Tues to meet. If he gets approved tomorrow, he might start work early this week! Since the interview on Thurs reaffirmed boy's hesitations to work in a corporate kitchen and has a lower starting wage, I feel that the country club job would be the better fit for him. Please send some good mojo his way and in the direction of the country club sous chef.
boy talked to his Phoenix cooking student Thursday evening. She was very nervous about attending SWLC and we reassured her it wouldn't be traumatic. I offered to send her a list of names of people we knew would be attending that she could approach with "DM and boy say 'hi'" -- a perfect icebreaker for her. So, early yesterday I looked at the list of titleholders, presenters, and judges and added those we know are perpetual volunteers, partners of those already listed, or just active community members and sent her the list (including notations to hug certain people, if she felt comfortable doing so). Since we can't be there ourselves, having her as our ambassador will give us a more physical presence as well as help her feel more at home (what slave doesn't feel better when they have a service to complete?). boy talked to her last night and she relayed a few highlights and frustrations and near misses of her day. she was able to connect with several of the people from our list, including talking to people she'd never even heard of before (title holders we only see once or twice a year who were grateful for news about us)! Since boy couldn't represent my household at the event, I'm glad we have such a personable and respectful ambassador.
