"When you open your mind and hands and heart to the knowing of a thing, there is no room in you for fear"

--Patricia McKillip, The Riddle-Master of Hed

I am going to start filtering some of my more private musings. Since blogger does not have a tool for that, you will need to visit my Live Journal and ask to be friended there. I will continue to post Daily Gratitude and other subjects here.

There is also a FAQ for my Journal at the same link.

I have a right to play
Friday, June 09, 2006 @ 13:37

I have been bothered for awhile by this notion that "play" is for children. Yes, boy is a boy because he has sElves that are younger, ranging from five to 17 years old. Yes, I honor and respect his headspace when that happens and I smile like a parent or aunt at his shenanigans. I know a variety of people who have younger sElves within that they let out (or that come out on their own accord) and you can see the shift in body, energy, and age take place. Little girls. Little boys. All wanting to play. I grok that completely.

However....

in my case...

why must I "go little" in order to play?

Why can't a 37yo woman color, finger paint, blow bubbles, roll in the grass, chase butterflies, skip, use a hula hoop, etc?

Why is it that if I do these things -- or even talk about these things -- there is an assumption that I am "letting my little girl out?"

Why is freedom and abandon associated with either 1) children or 2) sex?

I can have playful sex as an adult but any other sort of play is labeled "age play" -- whether I see it that way or not. And, in case you haven't gathered, I don't!

I do NOT have to be a kid, a puppy, a pony, a kitten, or any-thing other than mysElf in order to play. So, I ask the universe to release us from this notion that we have to be "other" in order to play and allow us to be recognized as humans playing.

And I ask that everyone be allowed to find their own space to play -- whether it is as child-sElf, puppy-sElf, or just plain sElf -- without assuming that others play in the same space, even as we all play together.
