Home & back, part 1: timeline
| Saturday, August 26, 2006 @ 09:36 Rather than a monster post (as I thought when I started typing) I'm going to attempt to break this into logical parts. We'll see how that goes. Here's the timeline of the last 10 days: Thurs, 8-17 -- boy received a phone call for a job interview with a resort in Phoenix. After a lengthy discussion of options and the possibility of being reimbursed for travel expenses, I authorized him to set an interview date on Tuesday and began to arrange for us to drive to Phoenix and back. Fri, 8-18 -- we finalized arrangements for boy to miss work on Wednesday (with an extension to Thursday, if needed) and me to miss Mon-Wed. I continued reaching out to FOC and friends in AZ to 1) house us overnight, 2) store a carload of our boxes and 3) get together with us during our brief visit Sat, 8-19 -- packing, confirming & finalizing plans, boy checked Leo's trip-readiness (Leo is my car). Sun, 8-20 -- boy worked 6am-1pm. I packed, ran errands, did a quick load of laundry. Picked him up & we ran a few more errands, loaded the car, took showers (again), and ate a "real meal" before hitting the road at about 5pm CDT. Mon, 8-21 -- arrived at slave g's home about 3:30 pm CDT (1:30 MST). Unloaded the car, showered the road dust off, took boy for a hair cut and ran some errands. Got caught in a dust storm and stopped over at boy c's for awhile. Then back to slave g's for dinner and then bed. Tues, 8-22 -- boy had interview, then dropped resumes at several places and finished with an interview at the CC he worked at in 2004-2005 season. We explored some housing options. Met a group of friends for an "open house/pizza party" at boy c's home then back to slave g's. Decided to stay an extra day to have a follow up interview at CC and drive down to Tucson to put in resumes and check out housing. Wed, 8-23 -- boy went to early 2nd interview and I did some budgeting. Chatted with slave g before hitting the road for Tucson. Drove around various neighborhoods looking for rentals & getting a sense of direction. boy put in three resumes (I think) and we got back to slave g's around 9:15pm. Loaded everything we could into the car, hung out with slave g some more and had a late dinner. We did manage to get to bed around 11 or 11:30, I believe. Thurs, 8-24 -- up at 4am, quick showers, last minute loading (I hope without waking slave g) and on the road by 5:30 am MST. Fri, 8-25 -- arrived back in Topeka around 3:15am MST (5:15 CDT). boy went right to bed while I unloaded the cooler and then collapsed. Up around noon to shower, eat, unload (but not unpack) car, took boy to work by 2:30, then picked up Mom & took her to a dr appt. Worked at my sister's until 7pm. Unpacked a little and read some e-mail, then picked boy up from work. Juggled DVD & video tapes & went to bed during a wonderful storm that flicked the power a few times. Sat, 8-26 -- boy at work by 6am, I slept in. Caught up on LJ friends list. Still need to read about 80 TAW group e-mails.
